LAY PASTOR - MARK CONLON

Mark Conlon joined the South Essex Circuit in 2002 and has special responsibility for QUEENS PARK COMMUNITY CHURCH.

Mark feels it is important to demonstrate that the church is not just for those who worship there and so has encouraged church members to pray, care for and become involved with all the people who live in Queens Park. This means that as well as services, prayer times and cell groups, there are also on offer, among other things, craft and art groups, a toddlers group and the Coffee Pot. Time is also given to the older members of the community.

Though there are occasions when we cater for each other with Bring-and-Share lunches, Mark's willingness to cook for us has resulted in several opportunities for social gatherings such as the traditional Christmas Dinner enjoyed by over 30 people.

Mark's faith is an encouragement to regular worshippers and he provides opportunities for them to develop their relationship with God and each other with Quiet Days and prayer.

He is full of artistic and creative ideas. This, and his desire to make the building inviting to everyone, has involved the congregation in working together to produce special displays for Easter and Christmas and an Arts Festival in celebration of Harvest, to which the whole community was invited.... and came!

Mark would like to see the Community Church continue being just THAT... an important part of the community and a good example of how Christian life is not separate from, but involved with, everyday life.
